A hot take on Christmas music before Thanksgiving.
By Ryan Snider, Staff Writer and Artist
Okay, I realize this is a very controversial subject, but hear me out.
I love Christmas music! Sipping some hot chocolate while listening to Frank Sinatra… MMMMMMMmmmmm. That’s the life; let me tell ya. Jamming to the absolute banger that is “Do they know it’s Christmas?” Holy guacamole, that song is the most beautiful thing to ever bless my ears.
BUT. There is a time and place for Christmas music. And that time is not TWO MONTHS EARLY. For crying out loud, Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet!
If you’re listening to Christmas music before you even cut the turkey, or watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade… you’re doing it wrong.
There’s a reason Santa comes at the end of the Parade! It’s the physical embodiment that Santa is coming to town, and it’s time to start getting ready for Christmas!
And in my humble opinion, listening to Christmas music before is downright sad. Or at least, it makes me sad. The music is phenomenal, but it isn’t Christmas time yet! So then I just get sad because Christmas isn’t for another two months, and I’m in a holly jolly mood. Ya know?
So while I agree, Christmas songs are amazing… There’s a time and a place for them. And gosh dangit, that time is Christmas. Not two months early or before Thanksgiving. Just try and hold out and wait. But if you can do that, if you can wait till the actual Christmas season to play the songs… It’ll be the most wonderful time of the year.
