Jake Erlandson is a junior on the men’s soccer team here at HU. The starter center-back earned NAIA offensive player of the week for Sept. 30 – Oct. 6, after navigating the Huntington men’s team to victory with his game-winning goals twice in a row.
His efforts collected a 1-0 victory over the Marian Knights as well as a 2-1 defeat over Bethel Pilots. The defender currently leads his team in goals this season, with a total of 10 scores under his belt over the last 17 matches. He also holds the title for most game-winning goals scored so far this season in the nation, with 6 to his name.
The junior from Dayton, Oh. spent his summer preparing for the season playing for the Dayton Dutch Lions – a USL league two team.
“It always feels good receiving recognition for the hard work I put into this sport every day,” said Erlandson, “but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates setting me up in good positions to score and do well on the field. This honor is only a small portion of what I want this year, because a conference championship where the team is recognized would feel a lot better and I would feel like we accomplished more.”
Jake looks forward to the rest of the season with his team, and his focus is locked on making it to nationals.
