Huntington’s newest eatery is bursting with flavor. With over one hundred different types of smoothies varying from fruity to dessert and everything in between, Healthy Hut can offer patrons a unique experience each time they return. Walking into their building (right next to Papa John’s), you feel welcomed by the bright colors, and as you sit down at the bar, you realize the incredible amount of choices you have laid out in front of you.

If you are a first-time visitor, they give you a sheet of paper than runs you through the process of your Healthy Hut experience, beginning with an aloe shot. You have the choice between three flavors — mandarin, mango and cranberry. Next in your experience is a cup of tea. Their flavors include chai, raspberry, peach, lemon and cinnamon. I went on a chilly day, so I got my tea hot, but iced tea is also an option. While you’re sipping on your tea, you are simultaneously deciding which of their expansive flavors of smoothies you are going to treat yourself with.

They organize their smoothies into sections — Delish Desserts, Coffee House, Peanut Butter Craze, Candy Lovers, Minty Fresh, Cookie Monster, Good Morning Sunshine, Fruity Tutti and Chocoholics, each having between 4-15 flavors listed under them.

All smoothies range between 150 and 250 calories, contain less than 10 grams of sugar and are packed with up to 24 grams of protein. As you finish up what’s left of your tea, you can smell the amazing combination of ingredients being mixed together in the blender right before your eyes.

In five-to-ten minutes, you can have yourself two refreshing beverages and a hearty smoothie for $7. Just $7.00 for a lovely change from campus dining that will make you feel good inside!

The owners, Mike and Trina Cripe, brought their business down from Mishawaka earlier this year. They officially opened in March and have found their store to be a popular place.

“We usually serve about a hundred people a day, and we’ve developed a handful of regulars already,” comments Mike.

They are currently attempting to negotiate with the university to allow Huntington University students to use their Forester Bucks at Healthy Hut. HU students have this option at Pizza Hut, Café of Hope, and JJ Java, and Healthy Hut is trying to add themselves to that list. They are the closest health-food establishment for miles, giving Foresters a local place to eat healthy.

If you are looking to try something new, are excited for a new date spot, or just craving a fresh new drink, the Healthy Hut is just a minute drive from campus, and they are ready to make themselves your favorite new spot in town.

They are open Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
